Sasquatch Chocolate Milk Stout by 903 Brewers Taste Test
Sasquatch Chocolate Milk Stout by 903 Brewers
I have a healthy apatite for hefty milk stouts, so I was really excited to try out this beer from 903 Brewers in Sherman, TX.
I didn’t realize that it was 10.7% ABV until I pulled up the 903 website while I was enjoying this beer. It’s a big and thick beer, but you really don’t get overwhelmed by the high alcohol content.
Here is what 903 Brewers has to say about the Sasquatch:
“Sasquatch Chocolate Milk Stout- A big beer with a big name. This stout is rich and creamy thanks to the addition of milk sugar. It is brewed with chocolate malt and has a heavy dose of cocoa nibs for a chocolate finish and rich aroma. At 10.7% ABV it’s a real beast.
Pairs Well With: Smoked Meats, Gouda, Chocolate”
Here is what CraftBeer.com say a Milk Stout should resemble:
“ENGLISH-STYLE SWEET STOUT (MILK STOUT)
Sweet stout, also referred to as cream stout or milk stout, is black in color. Malt sweetness, chocolate and caramel should dominate the flavor profile and contribute to the aroma. It also should have a low to medium-low roasted malt/barley-derived bitterness. Milk sugar (lactose) lends the style more body. This beer does use lactose sugar, so people with an intolerance should probably avoid this style.”
Sasquatch Milk Chocolate Stout in Glass
This beer pours out super dark. You literally can’t see into it at all. It also pours out with a milk chocolate colored head of foam. The head on this beer is really inviting.
This is one of the wide open cans where the entire top of the can pops off, so you will probably have to try harder than normal to get a good head on your pour.
Chocolate dominates the smell on this beer. It’s really the first and main thing in the aroma. You can also smell tons of dark and roasty malts. This beer has a pretty classic stout aroma in my humble opinion. Probably a little more chocolaty that your average milk stout, though.
I was amped to try this beer out once I had really taken in the smell, and I was not disappointed. Not at all.
Dark chocolate dominates the flavor profile on this beer, but it’s well balanced with the roasty malts. Sasquatch is a little sweet on the finish due to the lactose sugar and all of the chocolate additions during the brewing process.
There are also coffee notes in this beer, but it’s more like a mocha-type flavor versus classic black coffee because all of the chocolate flavor. You can really taste the chocolate nibs.
This beer is pretty much exactly what I want in a stout. Tons of dark flavors from a classic stout with the addition of extra dark chocolate. Sasquatch is a great beer.
If you are a fan of the Temptress from Lakewood Brewing Co, I would highly recommend Sasquatch. Both of these are great milk stout offerings from DFW.
Bravo to the 903 Brewers on this beer. I have a can of their The Land of Milk & Honey Stout in my fridge that I cannot wait to get to now. Stay tuned for that taste test.
